Become a friend.

By becoming a member of the Friends of the Harriet L. Hartley you are joining a community of passionate people invested in protecting, restoring and conserving Belfast Bay and the entire watershed of the Penobscot Bay. Our primary concern is protecting the 8 acres of intertidal zone of the conservation area. This area is currently threatened by a proposed industrial-scale land-based salmon facility that would be built adjacent to this fragile intertidal zone and would endanger the health of Belfast Bay and the entire Penobscot watershed.

We host monthly member meetings featuring guest speakers and experts on topics ranging from the conservation and protection of coastal waters to appropriate and truly sustainable aquaculture farming projects both locally and globally. We send out frequent updates on our legal cases and invite our members to briefings from our legal team. We host in-person gatherings and offer opportunities for the public to visit and learn more about the unique and beautiful intertidal ecosystem we steward.

We are an all-volunteer organization with 501(c)(3) status. All donations to our organization go to fund our legal efforts to protect the conservation area, public education about sustainable and regenerative small-scale aquaculture, and coastal and intertidal conservation and restoration.

We are excited to welcome you to our community!
